Election Job Vacancies

Quay Appointments have 1000 job vacancies in the Centralised Dec Vote and Sydney Count Centre located at Grace, Jenko and Kelly Pavilions, Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush.

 

Working Hours – 8.30am to 5.30pm (you must be available to work the full 8.5 hour day)

 

Working days will be Monday to Saturday. You must be available to work all days. The centre will be closed on Sundays.

 

Key Dates:

·        Election day is Saturday 14 September - Material Receipt and Gate Keeper Officers commence work

·        Sunday 15 September, Initial Reconciliation Officer + Gate Keeper commence work

·        Monday 16 September – Scrutiny and Batching commences

·        Tuesday 17 September – Initial Count, Batching, Amalgamation and Count Gate Keeper commences work

·        Wednesday 18 September – Extraction and Count Data Entry commences work

·        Friday 27 September – Initial Count, Batching and Scrutiny Completed

·        Saturday 28 September – Extraction and Count Data Entry Completed

 

All work has been assessed on expected quantity of ballot papers however as this quantity is not known until after Election Day, we can only estimate the proposed end dates.

 

Training will be a combination of online and practical on the job, at commencement of your first shift, under the direction of your Supervisor and NSWEC Training Team.

  • Position Description

    200 Scrutiny Officers

    • Review returned declaration votes to determine if the vote should be accepted or rejected

    • Data entry of elector details

    • Reconcile completed work

    • Ability to problem solve

     

    340 Data Entry Officers

    • Accurate data entry of preferences from ballot papers into the NSWEC computer count system

    • Reconciliation of data entered ballot papers

    • Lifting of ballot paper bundles will be required


    Key skills:

    • Computer skills - quick and accurate data entry

    • Ability to follow instructions

    • Ability to undertake repetitive work


    20 Initial Reconciliation Officers

    • Manual sorting of declaration vote envelopes

    • Reconciling and recording results

    • Bundling envelopes into 20, loading into trays and onto trolleys


    Key Skills

    • Attention to detail

    • Maintain accuracy through a repetitive process

    • Moving and lifting of material (Max 10kg)


    20 Amalgamation Officers

    • Sort accepted declaration vote envelopes to their district

    • Bundling envelopes into 20, loading into trays and onto trolleys

    • Envelope opening - using letter opening machines

    • Reconcile completed work

    63 Extraction Officers

    • Extraction of declaration votes

    • Reconciliation of ballot paper material

    • Exception handling

    40 Initial Count Officers

    • Accurate initial count of ballot papers

    • Lifting of ballot paper cartons will be required

    70 Batching Officers

    • Accurate check count of ballot papers received from the Returning Officer’s office

    • Accurate sort of ballot papers into various categories for either data entry or non-data entry (bulk entry)

    • Batching of ballot papers for data entry 

    • Some lifting may be required to be undertaken

    51 Gatekeeper Officer

    • Selection and allocation of work

    • Reconciling and recording of results

    • Ballot paper storage and sealing

    What do you need?  


    You will be a valued member of the Election Project Team responsible for timely delivery of the computerised count of the 2024 Local Government Elections.


    We are recruiting a reliable, skilled, political impartial and talented workforce who value teamwork. 


    Due to the nature of the work, the volume of the workforce and the scrutiny of this high-profile event we are looking for people with the following:


    • An Australian Citizenship, you are on the NSW or Commonwealth electoral roll. Proof of Electoral Roll will be required and verified 

    • Politically neutral with no affiliations to political parties, nominated candidates, or third-party campaigners

    • Strong attention to detail 

    • Confident computer skills

    • Quick to learn

    • Compliant when following a process

    • Proficient in numeric or alpha/numeric data entry, min 7,000 keystrokes per hour if applying for Scrutiny or Data Entry position
